Abu Dhabi Advances AED 2.85 Billion Mid Island Parkway Infrastructure Project
Date: 1 October 2026
Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport has announced that the first phase of the AED 2.85 billion Mid Island Parkway project is scheduled for completion in 2027.
The first phase will provide an eight lane dual carriageway connecting the northern Saadiyat Island interchange on the E12 highway with southern Saadiyat Island and Umm Yifeenah Island.
The development also includes reclaimed land, underground road sections and a 600 metre underwater tunnel beneath Khor Laffan.
Once operational, the new connection is expected to reduce travel time towards Reem Island and Abu Dhabi Island from approximately 25 minutes to around 10 minutes.
A planned second phase will extend the corridor by approximately 14.5 kilometres, connecting Umm Yifeenah Island with Sas Al Nakhl, Al Raha Beach and Khalifa City.
The Mid Island Parkway reflects Abu Dhabi’s continued investment in transport infrastructure and connectivity. Projects of this scale support wider activity across construction, engineering, logistics and project support sectors.
